17.4.2026 | As a member of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), Finland has ratified the Vienna Document 2011 (VD11), which is one of the effective arms control agreements. Pursuant to this document, Finland arranged 14th to 17th of April for the OSCE member states a visit to the bases of the Karelian Air Command and the Karelia Brigade.

6.11.2025 | Allied Joint Publication (AJP)-01, Allied Joint Doctrine is the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) capstone doctrine for Allied joint operations and activities. Finland has now published AJP-01 FI with Finnish National Elements. The doctrine is meant especially for regular personnel of the Finnish Defence Forces and for reservists and conscripts, but the document is public and available from the Finnish Defence Forces website.

The Finnish Air Force is one of the oldest aerial warfare service branches in the world to operate without interruption since its establishment in 1918.

1.8.2025 | The Defence Force's arrangement of the military music tour MILjazz continues in Northern Finland this Saturday. This year, the tour will be visited by international military music from allied countries. Among the participants is the NATO Jazz Orchestra, which consists of the SHAPE (Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe) International Band under NATO's European command. The band is arriving in Finland from Mons in Belgium.

7.3.2024 | Part of the main battles of the military exercise that is part of NATO’s Steadfast Defender 24 series take place in the Hetta and Kivilompolo road area from March 7 to March 9. The battles will have an effect on the traffic in the region.

17.6.2022 | Chair of the Military Committee of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO), Admiral Rob Bauer will visit Finland on 16–18 June 2022. Commander of the Finnish Defence Forces, General Timo Kivinen will host the visit.

22.2.2024 | The Finnish Defence Forces will participate in the Norwegian-led exercise Nordic Response 24 to be held in northern areas of Finland, Norway, and Sweden during 4–15 March 2024. Nordic Response 24 will mark the Army’s and the Finnish Defence Forces’ most substantial participation in a multinational exercise abroad. The strength of the Army training audience will be c. 2,500 personnel of whom 350 are service personnel, 1,060 conscripts, and 1,120 reservists.

22.2.2023 | In accordance with the OSCE Vienna Document 2011, Denmark conducts an evaluation visit to the Lapland Air Command 22 February 2023. The members of the evaluation team have diplomatic status.
