  11. 20.2.2026 | The Finnish Defence Forces will participate this spring’s key arctic exercise series during 9.–20.3.2026. The Norwegian-led Cold Response 26 -exercise will convene up to c. 7,500 soldiers in Finland and c. 25,000 soldiers in Norway from altogether 14 nations. In Finland, the exercise activity will focus on the Finnish Defence Forces’ exercise area at Rovajärvi but forces will be on the move across northern Finland.

  13. 5.12.2024 | The Finnish Defence Forces participated in exercise Cyber Coalition 2024 (CC24) organized by NATO from 29 November to 5 December. Cyber Coalition is the flagship of NATO’s cyber exercises and one of the world’s largest annual cyber exercises. The command and cyber range organization of the exercise was in Tallinn, but the majority of the forces involved participated remotely from their own operating areas.

  14. 19.12.2024 | The Defence Forces and the Traficom’s National Cyber Security Centre have established a multi-sector ISAC information sharing group (MIL-ISAC) which focuses on Defence system operations . The MIL-ISAC information sharing group has representatives from various enterprises that somehow contribute to the Finnish defence system. The MIL-ISAC group is starting off by forming a situational picture and sharing information among the group members.

  15. 20.5.2024 | The Finnish Defence Forces participated together with the Swedish Armed Forces in the top-tier multinational Cyber Defence Exercise Cyber Flag 24-1 from 12 to 18 May. The exercise was organized by United States Cyber Command in Joint Base Suffolk, Virginia. In addition to training US cyber protection teams, cyber operators from 18 NATO allies and partners trained their skills and improved their knowledge in detecting cyber threats and identifying solutions to protect networks.

  17. 6.2.2024 | The Finnish Defence Forces will participate in the Norwegian-led exercise Nordic Response 24 to be held in the northern areas of Finland, Norway, and Sweden during 4–15 March 2024. For the first time Finland will participate as a NATO member nation in exercising collective defence of the Alliance’s regions. As such this marks the most substantial participation in a multinational exercise abroad in the history of the Finnish Defence Forces.

  18. 20.9.2023 | The advancement of information technology and the digitalization of society have changed the threat environment. The volume of threats has increased with the advancement of the international cyber domain accentuating the importance of international cooperation. Multinational cooperation in cyber operations was strengthened in a planning and exercise event held in Finland from 11 to 15 September 2023. The event was attended by experts from Finland, Sweden, the United States and Great Britain.

The increase in the volume of international exercises to be attended arises from the NATO membership and from the fact that allies participate in a growing number of national exercises. According to the plan, this year will involve up to slightly more than 100 international training exercise events held in Finland and overseas.
