Steel cutting for the fourth Pohjanmaa-class multi-role corvette has commenced, and the keel of the third vessel has been laid in accordance with naval tradition at the Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC) shipyard. With these milestones, construction of all vessels included in the programme is now underway.

11.4.2024 | The building of the first multi-purpose corvette included in the Squadron 2020 project has advanced to the keel laying phase. A traditional keel laying ceremony was celebrated at Rauma shipyard on Thursday 11 April 2024.

9.5.2025 | The keel of the second Pohjanmaa-class multi-role corvette, part of the Squadron 2020 programme, was laid at Rauma shipyard on Thursday, 8 May 2025. The keel laying ceremony is a traditional and symbolically significant milestone in shipbuilding, marking the official start of hull assembly.

3.2.2025 | The first multi-role corvette of the Pohjanmaa-class, being built for the Finnish Navy, has reached the "hull completed" phase at the end of 2024 and its hull assembly now finished. The protective covering, which shielded the vessel during the painting phase, was removed in early February. Outfitting of the vessel continues at Rauma Marine Constructions' (RMC) shipyard in Rauma, and the official launch will take place later this spring.

The Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command, Rauma Marine Construction Oy, Saab Ab and the Finnish Navy participated in the signing of the contracts.

19.12.2016 | The Finnish Defence Forces' Logistics Command will send requests to 12 domestic and foreign companies to participate in tendering for a battle system for the Squadron 2020 vessels. Replies are expected by 13.2.2017. After this date an invitation to negotiate and an invitation to tender will be sent to selected suppliers during spring. The battle system will be competitively tendered; this will include the integration of systems into the vessels.

14.9.2016 | The Defence Forces are evaluating the possibility to purchase surface combatants for the Navy’s Squadron 2020 project from the shipyard of Rauma Marine Constructions. The combat system of the vessels will be competitively tendered as comprehensive deliveries and services. It will consist of a command and control system, sensors and weapons. Competitive tendering of combat system suppliers will be launched during 2016. The Squadron 2020 will reach a full operational readiness in 2026-27.
