Finnish Air Force has conducted two successful live firings of JASSM Standoff missiles in the United States on 5 and 9 March.

As part of the Finnish Defence Forces’ Uusimaa 17 exercise in November-December 2017, the skills to be honed include coordinated streamlining of the Air Force, Army and Navy activity on the ground, at sea and in the air. The type of inter-service and inter-branch cooperation implemented is exemplified in the operating of the Finland's air defence units when tasked with providing protection from and countermeasures for airborne offensives.

The Finnish Air Force is one of the oldest aerial warfare service branches in the world to operate without interruption since its establishment in 1918.

In April 2016, Finnish Air Force transferred two F/A-18C Hornet Multi-Role fighters to the United States for the integration work of the long range Joint Air-to Surface Standoff (JASSM) missile to the Finnish F/A-18 fleet. After succesful completion of the integration, the aircraft returned to Finland on a ferry flight taking place from 9 to 12 May.

The Finnish Air Force’s fighter pilots have been trained with the Hawk jet trainer aircraft since 1980. During its long history with the Air Force, the Hawk has undergone a number of modifications to meet constantly changing air warfare requirements. Today steps are being taken to expand the flight training with the Hawk to incorporate practising in both real and simulated environments. The objective is to prepare student fighter pilots for future air warfare challenges.

The Midnight Hawks is the official aerobatic team of the Finnish Air Force. The team with its four Hawk jet trainers has proudly presented the consummate flying skills of Finnish military pilots in air shows in Finland and abroad since 1997. All Midnight Hawks pilots are qualified air combat and Hawk flight instructors at the Air Force Academy, rehearsing aerobatics on top of their teaching responsibilities.
