Multinational evaluation and inspection visit to Finland

Luxembourg will lead a multinational team conducting a confidence and security building evaluation visit conform to the OSCE 2011 Vienna Document in Finland 6-10 June 2016.

The visit will take place in Karelia Air Command and the area being inspected comprises exercise areas belonging to Kainuu Brigade and the METSO16 War Exercise.

The team is composed of two people from Luxembourg, one from Switzerland and one from Belgium. The team is led by Lieutenant Colonel Alain Arendt from Luxembourg.

The evaluation visit will be hosted by the commander of the Karelia Air Command, Colonel Jari Mikkonen. The Finnish four-man team of liaison officers will be led by Lieutenant Colonel Markku Puustinen from Kainuu Brigade.

The purpose of the visit is to evaluate whether the information on Karelia Air Command in Finland's 2011 exchange of military information corresponds to the information that will be given to them during the evaluation visit.

The aim of the evaluation is to establish that there are no such ongoing military activities in the area designated for evaluation that according to the Vienna Document should have been made prior notification of. The inspections are part of routine arms control. Similar inspections are carried out in Finland every year. Reciprocally, Finland takes part in inspections in other participating states.
