Launch of the Second Pohjanmaa-Class Multi-Role Corvette Approaching
Hull assembly of the second Pohjanmaa-class multi-role corvette being built for the Finnish Navy was completed at the turn of the year at the Rauma shipyard. The vessel has received its grey protective coating, and part of the protective covering has been removed.
Outfitting of the vessel will continue during late winter in the assembly hall of Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC), and the launch will take place during the spring. Construction of all four vessels under the Squadron 2020 project is now underway.
Construction of the first corvette began in 2023. The vessel was launched in May 2025 and is currently being outfitted. Construction of the second corvette began in October 2024, the keel was laid in May 2025, and the hull was completed at the end of December 2025.
Construction of the third Pohjanmaa-class multi-role corvette began in 2025, and its keel was laid at the Rauma shipyard in January 2026. At the same time, construction of the fourth and final corvette commenced.
The objective of the Squadron 2020 project is to deliver the four Pohjanmaa-class multi-role corvettes to the Finnish Navy by the end of this decade. The vessels are designed to remain in service well into the 2050s.
Rauma Marine Constructions Oy (RMC) and its subsidiary RMC Defence Oy are building the Navy’s multi-role corvettes, which are designed for the demanding and variable conditions of the Baltic Sea. The contracting authority is the Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command. The corvettes are designed for year-round operations and are capable of minelaying, anti-submarine warfare, protection of maritime traffic, and sustained long-term operations at sea.
