Joint planning meeting increases defence readiness in the North

The Commander of the Finnish Army and Multi-Corps Land Component Command Northwest (MCLCC-NW), Lieutenant General Pasi Välimäki hosted a working meeting held by the Allied Land Command (LANDCOM) of NATO at Mikkeli during 15.-16.4.2026.

The event was participated by personnel of the MCLCC-NW Core Staff Element, Army commanders of the region, as well as specialists from the Army Command Finland. The event covered current operational issues, integration of components and activities in the North, as well effects of battlefield changes on the use principles of forces. 

— This event reaffirmed planning of tasks and functions in accordance with our shared objectives in the North. We conduct close and practical co-operation with our allies. Joint planning provides a good basis for planning of training exercise activity and of use of forces that increases our defence readiness from the Gulf of Finland to the Arctic Ocean, says Lieutenant General Pasi Välimäki.
