Foreign citizens who have gained Finnish citizenship and who have completed the compulsory peacetime military service of his/her former home country, or a portion of if (at least four (4) months) can upon application be exempted from military service in peacetime. Decisions regarding exemption are made by the regional offices.

25.11.2024 | Bittium Wireless Ltd, a subsidiary of Bittium Corporation, and the Finnish Defence Forces have signed a Partnership Agreement for the years 2025–2036. Pursuant to this document, Finland arranged 14th to 17th of April for the OSCE member states a visit to the bases of the Karelian Air Command and the Karelia Brigade.

2.4.2025 | Norway and Denmark have joined the framework agreements enabled by the military optronics Implementing Arrangement signed in April 2024. Nordic cooperation is now expanding with the signing of a new Implementing Arrangement in the field of Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence (C4I). At the same time, new FISE framework agreements were signed for the procurement of unmanned ground surveillance sensors and cognitive HF radios.
