15.7.2024 | The biennial international military music event will fill the streets of Hamina with military music from 29 July to 3 August 2024. The Hamina Tattoo, which has become a tradition, is organized by the city of Hamina and the main partner is the Finnish Defence Forces. 3.11.2025 | The Finnish Defence Forces will celebrate the 108th Independence Day of Finland by way of a national parade on 6 December in Kouvola. The theme of the parade is We defend Finland together. The review of troops will take place at Kouvola Finnish baseball stadium, and the pass in review on Salpausselänkatu. The Finnish Defence Forces’ and other agencies’ equipment and activity will be available for familiarisation at Sumulaakso. The events are free of charge.

1.7.2022 | Hamina Tattoo International Military Music Festival will be held on 11–16 July 2022. The Tattoo Week of events will include a selection of military bands’ concerts available free of charge in Kesäpuisto Park, a Tattoo Parade at Town Hall Square, as well as a variety of stalls and music performances along the Tattoo Street. The week will culminate in the March Show performances of military bands at the Hamina Bastion event arena.

27.2.2026 | This year, the Army Seminar programme included talks about Russia’s war of aggression given by Ukrainian soldiers and discussions about collective defence of NATO’s Eastern flank. Apart from Ukraine, the 7th Army Seminar also had participants from NATO member states’ Army commands, NATO commands and the Finnish Defence Forces’ services.

11.1.2019 | The National Defence University celebrated its anniversary in Santahamina on Friday, 11 January 2019. The anniversary in January traces its roots to the establishment of the National Defence University on 14 January 1993.

The modernization of four Hamina-class fast-attack missile craft (Hamina, Tornio, Hanko ja Pori) is complete and the vessels are in operational use in the Navy. The fast-attack craft’s mid-life upgrade was carried out during 2018-2023. Finnish company Patria has acted as the main contractor of the project, and delivery festivities are celebrated in Turku today 12 December.

16.12.2025 | Finland’s first F-35A multirole fighter, designated JF-501, was presented to the public at a rollout ceremony at Lockheed Martin’s production facility in Fort Worth on 16 December.

18.5.2018 | Celebrating its 100-year-long existence, the Finnish Defence Forces will organise a public event themed ’National Defence is everybody’s business’ available to everyone free of charge at the Senate Square in Helsinki from 30 May to 4 June 2018.

10.6.2019 | Celebrating its bicentenary this year, the Guards Band will organise, among others, a festival weekend that takes place in Helsinki in June. Over the course of this weekend, music will play at market squares, on the ferry, in the parks, and even in a sauna. Also the Summer Tour of the Finnish Defence Forces’ will be performing in Suomenlinna.

All of the Finnish military bands will perform at the festival. 26.8.2025 | The 109th Cadet Course and the 92st Midshipman Course graduate from the Bachelor of Military Sciences programme on 29 August 2025. The Supreme Commander of the Finnish Defence Forces, President of the Republic Alexander Stubb will promote the 173 graduates to the rank of Lieutenant in the Presidential Palace's Hall of State. The graduation day with its traditional ceremonies will be a memorable event for the young officers.

11.8.2025 | The National Defence University will organize the third doctoral conferment ceremony in its history in Helsinki on 18-20 September. The event will celebrate the doctors and honorary doctors of military sciences to be conferred, as well as Finnish research in military sciences.

3.10.2025 | The third National Defence University conferment ceremony was held in Helsinki between 18 and 20 September 2025. At the conferment ceremony, 23 doctors of military sciences graduating after 2018 and 5 Honorary Doctors were conferred. Conferment grants them the right to use the doctoral hat and sword.
