The Air Forces of Finland, Norway and Sweden will host multinational Arctic Challenge Exercise 2023 from 29 May to 9 June 2023. More than one 150 aircraft from 14 nations will participate in the air exercise carried out in the airspace over the northern areas of the host countries.

20.2.2026 | The Finnish Defence Forces will participate this spring’s key arctic exercise series during 9.–20.3.2026. The Norwegian-led Cold Response 26 -exercise will convene up to c. 7,500 soldiers in Finland and c. 25,000 soldiers in Norway from altogether 14 nations. In Finland, the exercise activity will focus on the Finnish Defence Forces’ exercise area at Rovajärvi but forces will be on the move across northern Finland.

22.10.2025 | A detachment from the United States Marine Corps (USMC), Marine Rotational Force - Europe, led by Combat Logistics Battalion 6, are arriving to Finland and will train together with Nyland Brigade until the end of December. The detachment will have a strength of around 350 Marines by the beginning of November and will be stationed in Nyland Brigade.

The detachment will have a strength of around 350 Marines by the beginning of November and will be stationed in Nyland Brigade.

5.3.2025 | The combat phase of Exercise Arctic Forge 25 has ended, and foreign troops are currently redeploying to their home bases.

12.9.2025 | Chief of the Defence Command Finland, Lieutenant General Vesa Virtanen participated in the conference of the Northern Group’s vice chiefs of defence organised in Iceland and Greenland on 9-12 September.

22.2.2024 | The Finnish Defence Forces will participate in the Norwegian-led exercise Nordic Response 24 to be held in northern areas of Finland, Norway, and Sweden during 4–15 March 2024. Nordic Response 24 will mark the Army’s and the Finnish Defence Forces’ most substantial participation in a multinational exercise abroad. The strength of the Army training audience will be c. 2,500 personnel of whom 350 are service personnel, 1,060 conscripts, and 1,120 reservists.

5.3.2025 | The combat phase of Exercise Arctic Forge 25 has ended, and foreign troops are currently redeploying to their home bases.

17.4.2026 | The Commander of the Finnish Army and Multi-Corps Land Component Command Northwest (MCLCC-NW), Lieutenant General Pasi Välimäki hosted a working meeting held by the Allied Land Command (LANDCOM) of NATO at Mikkeli during 15.-16.4.2026.

19.3.2026 | The flight operations of Exercise Cold Response 26 involve not only fighter aircraft but also NATO’s E-3A Sentry AWACS aircraft, operating from Ørland, Norway.

25.4.2023 | The Finnish Defence Forces organizes an international Arctic Security Forces Roundtable (ASFR) in Turku on 25–27 April 2023. The event will be hosted by the Deputy Chief of Staff, Strategy, Major General Janne Jaakkola. ASFR is co-chaired by the United States and Norway.

7.1.2026 | The Finnish Defence Forces prepare the participation in the military exercise Cold Response 2026 to be held in northern areas of Norway, Finland and Sweden in March 2026.
