25.11.2025 | The Kainuu Brigade's Northern Axe 25 combat exercise will be conducted in the Kainuu region from November 29 to December 5, 2025.

Arctic Shield 18 will be organised in the Rovajärvi training exercise area from 27 November to 12 December 2018. The training objectives will include developing Finnish Army capability across the area of Northern Finland, validating the sustained operating level of the troops trained as well as enhancing multinational interoperability.

Altogether five local defence training exercises led by Finnish Army brigade-level units will be organised in the regions of Kymenlaakso, Lapland, Northern Savonia, Ostrobothnia, Satakunta and Uusimaa from 26 February to 9 March 2018. These exercises will contribute to facilitating the inter-agency cooperation capability of the security authorities as part of a rapidly developing situation framework.

22.5.2023 | Kainuu Brigade hosts US troops’ exercises in Kajaani and Vuosanka from 2 June to 19 June 2023, as a part of the Finnish Army’s training exercise entity.

As part of the Pohjoinen 18 exercise, the spearhead of the Kainuu Brigade and Jaeger Brigade comprise readiness units that are formed of both professional soldiers and conscripts.

Undertaking military training in Germany from 1915 to 1918, the Jaegers built up the foundation for the establishing of the contemporary Finnish Defence Forces, and, in significant numbers, equalled the officers who served in command duties during the Winter and Continuation Wars as well as the Lapland War. The Finnish Defence Forces celebrates the 100th Anniversary of the Homecoming of the Jaegers in Vaasa from 23 February to 24 February 2018, and in Helsinki on Monday 26 February 2018.

5.5.2025 | The Kainuu Brigade will lead Northern Strike 125, a live-fire exercise, and Northern Star 25, a combat exercise, at Rovajärvi during 12-31 May 2025. In total, the exercises will be participated by up to c. 6,500 personnel of whom 900 will be from Sweden and 350 from the UK.

9.4.2025 | The training exercise entity of the Army will start at the end of April to continue until early June in all of Finland. The exercises will strengthen the alliance’s ability for joint operating, build-up of combat power, and its concentration across Finland.

22.5.2025 | Commander of the Finnish Army, Lieutenant General Pasi Välimäki, conducted an inspection of Exercise Northern Strike 125 on 22 May 2025. Alongside his inspection of Finnish units, the Commander also met with Allied troops from the United Kingdom and Sweden.

5.3.2025 | The combat phase of Exercise Arctic Forge 25 has ended, and foreign troops are currently redeploying to their home bases.

10.2.2025 | The Army will organise the local defence exercises during 18.2.–7.3. this spring. From the Defence Forces, the altogether six local defence exercises will be participated by up to c. 3,000 conscripts, reservists, and service personnel, as well as more than 400 vehicles in total. As is characteristic for local defence exercises, the training audience will also include a significant number of other authorities and business sector stakeholders.
