Finland organized the annual NORDEFCO meeting of Nordic Chiefs of Defence at the Joint Force Command in Norfolk, Virginia from 9 to 10 April 2025.
The event was hosted by the Commander of the Defence Forces, General Janne Jaakkola. In addition to the Commander of the Finnish Defence Forces, the Swedish, Norwegian, Danish and Icelandic Chiefs of Defence also met Supreme Allied Commander Transformation, Admiral Pierre Vandier, and Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Transformation, General Chris Badia as well as Commander of Joint Force Command Norfolk, Vice Admiral Doug Perry.
At the core of Nordic Defence Cooperation is the ability to conduct, and command, combined joint military operations to manage both present and future challenges together.
“The joint meetings with JFCNF and ACT provided an excellent platform to deepen the Nordic nations’ understanding of the current posture and activities of the future command structure as well as the longer development of the Alliance“, said General Janne Jaakkola.
Finland holds the chair of the Nordic Defence Cooperation (NORDEFCO) in 2025. Finland took over the rotation-based chairmanship from Denmark. Both on the military and political level, the main focus of Finland’s chairship is on the implementation of the Nordic defence cooperation political steering document, Vision for Nordic Defence Cooperation 2030. Work is being done, among other things, in the area of capability and defence materiel, as well as in military mobility, logistics and security of supply.
