Commander of the Finnish Defence Forces to EUMC meeting in Belgium 7−10 Nov 2016

The Commander of the Finnish Defence Forces, General Jarmo Lindberg, will take part in the European Union Military Committee (EUMC) meeting in Brussels on 7-8 November. The meeting will be attended by the high command of European Union member states.

The committee convenes twice a year to discuss, among other things, EU-led crisis management operations, the union's security strategy and comprehensive security as well as the development of European security from a military point of view. In addition to the EUMC meeting, General Lindberg will take part in the European Defence Agency's annual meeting on 10 November.

During his trip, the general will meet, among others, Finland's EU representative in the EU's Political and Security Committee (COPS), Ambassador Sofie From-Emmesberg, the chairman of the European Union Military Committee, General Mikhail Kostarakos and European Commission Vice-President Jyrki Katainen. General Lindberg will also meet Lieutenant General Esa Pulkkinen who has been the chair of the European Union Military Staff from spring 2016 onwards. The CHOD will meet staff working in Finland's Permanent Representation to the European Union and Finns working as public servants in the EU to discuss current affairs.

In addition to advisers working in Finland's representation, the general will be accompanied by Finland's military representative to the EU and NATO, Rear Admiral Juha Vauhkonen, stationed in Brussels, as well as by his ADC, Major Timo Ronkainen.
