NATO Maritime Forces visit Turku

Standing NATO Maritime Group 1, (SNMG1), will conduct a scheduled port visit in Turku arriving on 22 Apr 2026, Commanded by Commodore Maryla Ingham, Royal Navy, on the flagship German frigate FGS Sachsen and Portuguese frigate NRP Dom Francisco de Almeida. The vessels will moor at Turku harbor.

Sachsen-class frigate FGS Sachsen is 143 meters long and 17 meters wide. She is specialized in air defense. She can house a crew complement of 230 and her homeport is in Wilhelmshaven, Germany.

Bartolomeu Dias-class frigate NRP Francisco de Almeida is 122 meters long and 14 meters wide. She is specialized in anti-submarine defense and air-defense. She can house a crew complement of 160 and her homeport is in Lisbon, Portugal.

The vessels will not be open to the public during these routine calls. The vessels operate at the moment in the vicinity of Finland, which is why they come to Finland for maintenance and replenishments.
