Finland to take part in Exercise Trident Juncture

The Finnish Defence Forces are taking part in the international Trident Juncture 16 exercise in October and November 2016. The exercise is a NATO-led crisis management exercise. Finland will send 12 participants to the exercise.

Trident Juncture 16 is a command-post exercise and its scenario is a demanding crisis management operation. The exercise will start on 23 October and end on 3 November 2016. The Finnish detachment taking part in the exercise will mainly operate in Italy. In addition, Finland will place staff officers in headquarters in Germany and Norway. The Finnish detachment will only include regular personnel.

The main theme of the exercise is developing the interoperability of multinational forces. Finland's national objectives are to develop national crisis management capabilities and to develop the professional skills of personnel taking part in the exercise to be further utilised in national activities.

Trident Juncture 16 is NATO's most important exercise in 2016. The exercise will bring together forces from both NATO member countries and Partnership for Peace countries, bringing the total to 30 countries. The host nations of the exercise will be Italy, Germany and Norway.

The exercise is approved yearly by the Ministry of Defence and is according to the Defence Forces' annual international exercise participation plan.
