12.2.2026 | The local defence exercise ”Karelian Stone 26” will be held in areas of Lappeenranta, Taipalsaari, Savitaipale, and Imatra during 2–6 March 2026.

17.9.2025 | The Finnish, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish and Icelandic Chiefs of Defence Staffs met in Finland on 16 - 17 September. This was an annual meeting; Denmark had hosted the meeting in 2024. The central themes of the meeting included Nordic military cooperation and deepening it in the prevailing security situation and in the longer term.

The objective of the visit was to deepen co-operation between the Finnish and Italian Armies as well as to familiarise Lieutenant General Masiello with activity of the Finnish Army.

10.2.2025 | The Army will organise the local defence exercises during 18.2.–7.3. this spring. From the Defence Forces, the altogether six local defence exercises will be participated by up to c. 3,000 conscripts, reservists, and service personnel, as well as more than 400 vehicles in total. As is characteristic for local defence exercises, the training audience will also include a significant number of other authorities and business sector stakeholders.

22.8.2024 | The Guard Jaeger Regiment will lead the Kehä 24 local defence exercise in the Helsinki metropolitan area and the region of Uusimaa from 31 August to 6 September 2024. The exercise will focus on local defence and cooperation with other authorities.

21.2.2023 | The Jaeger Brigade will lead the Local Defence Exercise North 1/23 in the region of Lapland during 24.2.–3.3.2023. The objective of the exercise is to develop the local troops’ readiness for regional combat and protection missions, as well as to strengthen public authorities’ capability for joint operating in disturbance situations.

25.8.2021 | From 3 to 11 September 2021, the Finnish Defence Forces will train tasks of local defence across Finland. Apart from the Finnish Defence Forces, the exercises will also be participated by several agencies and organisations. Undertaking training strengthens local defence readiness in responding to rapid changes in the security situation, and develops inter-agency cooperation between authorities in disturbance situations.
