13.1.2021 | Russia Seminar 2021 of the series of seminars that have already become a tradition will be held at the National Defence University on 26 January 2021 and 2 February 2021. Unlike previous seminars, this one will be held as a completely virtual event due to the prevailing coronavirus situation. The seminar discusses Russian military policy and the research development in that field.

5.3.2020 | On an order issued by the Defence Command, the Defence Forces has taken measures to contain the spread of coronavirus COVID-19.

13.3.2020 | Due to the Coronavirus, the Finnish Defence Forces is making changes to the training and leave arrangements for conscripts and women in voluntary military service. There will be also be changes regarding refresher training exercises. The changes will come into effect on 13 March 2020.

18.3.2020 | To prevent the spread of the coronavirus, the National Defence University, part of the Finnish Defence Forces, prevents the entry into its premises of persons not serving the FDF or not studying at the NDU and instructs students and personnel to work from home.

Den förvärrade coronasituationen i samhället återspeglas även i Nylands brigad. För tillfället har 61 av brigadens beväringar testat positivt för covid-19, och av dem befinner sig i 38 brigaden och resten hemma. Drygt 100 beväringar har exponerats och är i karantän. En del av dem som nyligen ryckt in och testat positivt har varit symptomfria, och smittfallen har uppdagats då större mängder test har gjorts på dem som varit i karantän.

20.12.2024 | On Monday, January 6, 2025, new conscripts will start their service at the units of the Finnish Defence Forces and the Finnish Border Guard. In contingent 1/25, approximately 12,000 new conscripts will begin their service, of which about 400 are women.

23.7.2024 | There is a positive trend in the decreasing number of interruptions to national service.

22.2.2022 | From 7-11 March 2022, the Vaasa 22 local defence exercise led by Pori Brigade will assemble, in addition to Defence Forces personnel, conscripts and reservists, also authorities in the region of Ostrobothnia, personnel of the City of Vaasa as well as businesses and actors in the area.

22.2.2022 | The Army will exercise local defence tasks across Finland from 26 February to 11 March 2022. Undertaking training will develop the local units’ readiness to carry out local combat and protection missions as part of a wider defense effort, and also ensure fluidity of inter-agency cooperation in case of disruption.

20.12.2024 | På måndagen den 6 januari 2025 inleder nya rekryter sin tjänstgöring vid Försvarsmaktens och Gränsbevakningsväsendets enheter. I kontingent 1/25 inleder cirka 12 000 nya rekryter sin tjänstgöring, varav cirka 400 är kvinnor.

17.5.2021 | The Arctic Challenge Exercise 21 organised by the air forces of Finland, Sweden and Norway has been scaled down from the original number of participants due to the coronavirus pandemic.

4.12.2020 | The majority of international meetings have been organised online. When the situation and restrictions allow for it, the most important negotiations have been carried out face to face conforming to the COVID-19-related health and safety instructions. On 3-4 December 2020, Commander of the Swedish Army, Major General Karl L. E. Engelbrektson visited Mikkeli.

30.11.2021 | Due to the current coronavirus pandemic situation and in adherence to the restrictions and guidelines in effect in the area, the Finnish Defence Forces cancels the National Finnish Independence Day Parade and its side events planned to be arranged in Lahti on 6 December.

13.4.2021 | Two Hamina-class fast-attack craft of the Finnish Navy will take part in the annual anti-submarine warfare exercise organised by the Swedish Navy 15-20 April 2021 off the east coast of Sweden.

5.5.2022 | The Army will participate in the exercise drill Siil / Hedgehog 22 in Estonia on 18–28 May 2022. Consisting of reservists, conscripts, and service personnel, the Finnish training audience detachment to the exercise will be altogether 240 personnel in its total strength. The detachment will be led by the Pori Brigade.
