Finland to conduct an evaluation visit and inspection in Serbia

Finland will conduct a confidence- and security-building evaluation and inspection conform to the Vienna Document 2011 in Serbia between 18-22 February 2019.

The evaluation and inspection team consists of three Finnish officers and one Hungarian officer. The evaluation and inspection team is led by Major Timo Rintanen from Army Command Finland.

The evaluated unit is the 1st Army Brigade located in the town of Novi Sad and its environs. The purpose of the visit is to establish that the information on the Serbian Armed Forces corresponds with the annual report they have submitted.

The area selected for inspection is located in southern Serbia.

The aim of the evaluation is to establish that there are no such ongoing military activities in the area designated for evaluation that according to the Vienna Document should have been made prior notification of. The inspections are part of routine arms control. Similar inspections are carried out in Finland every year. Reciprocally, Finland takes part in inspections in other participating OSCE states.
