Finnish Chief of Defence on official visit to Georgia

The Commander of the Finnish Defence Forces, General Jarmo Lindberg, will be on an official visit as a guest of the Georgian Armed Forces 29 - 31 August 2016. The visit will be hosted by the Commander of the Georgian Armed Forces, Major General Vakhtang Kapanadze.

During his visit General Lindberg will meet Georgian Armed Forces’ high command. He will also meet Levan Izorian, the new Georgian Minister of Defence as of 1 August 2016. The programme includes the commander giving a presentation on Finland's defence solution from a military point of view.

During the Wales Summit in 2014, NATO presented a new form of partnership called Enhanced Opportunities Partners (EOP). Five countries were designated as such partners: Finland, Sweden, Australia, Georgia and Jordan. The EOP is an extensive partnership programme unique to each country allowing them to strengthen their particular defence capability. The programme aims to develop international cooperation, interoperability, the capacity to receive assistance and military capabilities.

General Lindberg will be travelling with the Defence Forces' Chief of Logistics, Brigadier General Timo Kakkola, with Finland's Defence Attaché to Tallinn who is also accredited to Georgia, Commander Jussi Voutilainen, and the Chief of Defence's ADC, Major Timo Ronkainen.
