  6. 7.11.2025 | 13-17 October, FINCENT conducted a mixed learning iteration of the Advance UN Field Operations Security Management Course (UNFOSMP) at the UN Office in Nairobi, Kenya. Mixed learning is a combination of residential classroom lectures at the UN Office premises, combined with learners participating online and working together through a web-based platform. 24 learners attended the Advance course, 19 residential and 5 online.

  7. 20.2.2026 | Technological upheaval, threat scenarios in the military operational environment and recent war experiences have created a need to develop and coordinate the Defence Forces' innovation activities. This need has been addressed by gradually starting a coordinated Defence Forces innovation service from the beginning of 2026. The Defence Forces innovation unit will be established under the Finnish Defence Research Agency as part of the innovation activities.

  8. 20.2.2026 | The Finnish Defence Forces will participate this spring’s key arctic exercise series during 9.–20.3.2026. The Norwegian-led Cold Response 26 -exercise will convene up to c. 7,500 soldiers in Finland and c. 25,000 soldiers in Norway from altogether 14 nations. In Finland, the exercise activity will focus on the Finnish Defence Forces’ exercise area at Rovajärvi but forces will be on the move across northern Finland.

  10. In war and crisis situations, the Finnish Defence Forces needs an ability to dispose of explosives at the bottom of the sea and on the ground. These technically demanding and lengthy course entities are not ones that can be completed in a minimum of time, so the needed competence should already be available. Hiring high-quality professional units on a permanent basis would, however, take up a big slice out of the defence budget.

  11. 30.10.2025 | The Finnish Defence Forces has released a new data and AI strategy designed to guide the organisation towards data-centric command and control and strengthened information and knowledge management. Beginning in 2025, the FDF will cooperate with NestAI to accelerate the development of AI capabilities.
