The anniversary of the Navy is celebrated annually on 9 July. The date is based on the second naval battle of Ruotsinsalmi, which took place on 9-10 July 1790 between the Swedish and Russian navies.

27.2.2026 | This year, the Army Seminar programme included talks about Russia’s war of aggression given by Ukrainian soldiers and discussions about collective defence of NATO’s Eastern flank. Apart from Ukraine, the 7th Army Seminar also had participants from NATO member states’ Army commands, NATO commands and the Finnish Defence Forces’ services.

17.4.2026 | As a member of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), Finland has ratified the Vienna Document 2011 (VD11), which is one of the effective arms control agreements. Pursuant to this document, Finland arranged 14th to 17th of April for the OSCE member states a visit to the bases of the Karelian Air Command and the Karelia Brigade.

21.5.2019 | A Nordic Cadet Meeting, Nordiska Kadetmöte, - or NOKA Days - will be organised at the National Defence University 23-26 May 2019. NOKA Days represent an opportunity for cadets to meet students from the military academies of the other nordic countries, giving them a peak at international activities in the framework of seminar and team work, and sports, for example. Finland organizes NOKA Days every four years.

2.3.2026 | The Commander of the Finnish Army met the Chief of the German Army, and familiarised with the operating of the Jaeger Battalion 91 in Rotenburg during his visit. The Commander also attended the Finnentag celebration marking this year the 111th anniversary since the start of Finnish Jaeger training at Hohenlockstedt.

1.3.2018 | On 6 March 2018, it will be 100 years since the founding of the Finnish Air Force. The centennial will be celebrated in a number of events taking place around Finland on the weeks beginning 26 February and 5 March.
