Russia to lead multinational evaluation visit in Finland
Russia will lead a multinational confidence and security building evaluation visit conform to the OSCE 2011 Vienna Document in Finland between 29 May and 1 June 2017.
The evaluation team will include tree Russian officers and one officer from Belarus. The inspection team members hold diplomat status. The evaluation team will be led by Colonel Sergey Logachev. The Finnish liaison officer team will be led by Colonel Sami-Antti Takamaa from the Karelia Brigade. Participating countries are Russia and Belarus.
The following headquarters and brigade-level units are situated within the evaluation area: the Jaeger Brigade, Lapland Air Command, Finnish army's ARMY NORTH17 exercise in Rovajärvi and Finnish Air Force-led ACE17 exercise in Northern Finland.
The aim of the evaluation is to establish that there are no such ongoing military activities in the area designated for evaluation that according to the Vienna Document should have been made prior notification of. The inspections are part of routine arms control. Similar inspections are carried out in Finland every year. Reciprocally, Finland takes part in inspections in other participating states.
