The Commander of the Finnish Defence Forces, general Timo Kivinen will host the bi-annual meeting of the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) Chiefs of Defence on Wednesday 12 April in Helsinki.

The JEF is a multilateral framework, originating from the 2014 NATO Wales Summit for regional defence cooperation. The JEF is made up of ten Participant Nations (PNs): Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and the United Kingdom -which Finland joined in the summer of 2017 at the same time as Sweden. Iceland became a member in April 2021. The objective of the JEF countries' cooperation is to develop the military capabilities of the participating countries, to prevent crises and, if necessary, to operate together in crisis situations.
