The coordination test includes repetitions in line running and body control, for which a combined total time is measured. The repetitions of line running completed, those of body control will follow immediately.

Repetition: Line running 10 repetitions + Body control 10 repetitions

Pass: less than 1 min 45 s
Fail: over 1 min 45 s

Line running (per repetition)

  • the distance between the two lines is four metres
  • at the start, standing sideways, one hand touching one line
  • running to touch the other line, and running back to touch the line again = one repetition
  • repeating this 10 times.

Body control (per repetition)

  • standing, the arms straight up, the torso straight
  • getting down, lying down, facing the floor, the arms extended in front
  • getting up, the arms straight up
  • getting down, lying down, facing the ceiling, the arms extended behind
  • getting up, the arms straight up
  • repeating this 10 times.

Sit-ups: Completion time 60 seconds, cumulative points per the number of repetitions

3 points: 48 repetitions
2 points: 40 repetitions
1 point: 32 repetitions

Abdominal sit-ups (per repetition)

  • lying down on the floor, facing the ceiling, the hands behind the neck, the fingers crossed, the elbows forward
  • the legs in a 90-degree angle, an assistant supports the ankles
  • getting to sit-up, touching the knees with the elbows
  • getting back down so that the shoulders touch the floor.

Errors

  • failing to keep the hands behind the neck
  • failing to have the fingers crossed
  • clapping hands for speed while touching the floor
  • the hip is detached from the floor.

Press-ups: Completion time 60 seconds, cumulative points per the number of repetitions

3 points: 38 repetitions
2 points: 30 repetitions
1 point: 32 repetitions

Press-ups (per repetition)

  • lying down facing the floor, arms at the width of the shoulders, the fingers forward
  • legs at the width of the shoulders
  • in the high position, both the arms and the torso straight
  • in the low position, the arms in a 90-degree angle and the torso straight.

Errors

  • the torso bends from the back or from the hip
  • the knees bend
  • the arms fail to straighten.
     

Upper back: Completion time 60 seconds, cumulative points per the number of repetitions

3 points: 60 repetitions
2 points: 50 repetitions
1 point: 40 repetitions

Upper back repetition

  • lying down, facing the floor, the hands behind the neck, the fingers crossed
  • an assistant supports the ankles
  • elevating the upper body 30 cm
  • lowering back down so that the chest touches the floor.
     

Pull-ups: No time limit, cumulative points per the number of repetitions

3 points: 14 repetitions
2 points: 10 repetitions
1 point: 6 repetitions

Pull-up repetition

  • the body is suspended by the hands gripping a steel bar, the legs and arms straight
  • flexing the arms until the chin is above the steel bar
  • de-flexing the elbows until the arms are fully extended
  • repeating the repetitions continuously.

Errors

  • the body sways
  • the body bends.
     

Standing long jump: Two repetitions, the result in metres

3 points: 2,40 metres
2 points: 2,20 metres
1 point: 2,00 metres

Standing long jump repetition

  • taking off on both feet, landing on both feet
  • measuring the end-result at the heel of the foot furthest back
  • two repetitions, the best result of the two will be stand.
     

  • additional weight c. 10 kg
  • the combined distance to be run is five kilometres
    • two kilometres of supervised running in 10 min (5 min/km)
    • a three-kilometre test run will be timed
       
  • 12 minutes = 20 points (maximum)
  • cumulative points: 1 point/15 seconds; failed if the time exceeds 14min 30s.
     

Jumping into water

  • jumping down from five metres, feet first
  • result: pass or fail.

Diving two items from a tank floor

  • taking off by bending from the water surface
  • fetching two items from the depth of 4 metres
  • using swimming glasses or diving mask not allowed
  • result: pass or fail.

Swimming

  • take off by jumping from the pool side
  • 200 metres free style (backstroke not allowed) 
  • must use swim wear (no shorts)
  • use of swimming glasses not allowed
  • cumulative points: 1 point/45 seconds
  • will result in fail if the time exceeds 4min 45s.

Swimming test: Distance 200 metres, time

3 points: 3.15 minutes
2 points: 4.00 minutes
1 point: 4.45 minutes
Fail: over 4.45 minutes.

Skiing test completion

  • points
    • the maximum number of points 10
    • cumulative points: 1 point/1 minute
       
  • the combined distance is altogether 10 kilometres
    • five kilometres of warm up skiing in 30 - 35 min
    • a five-kilometre test skiing which will be timed (joint start)
  • the impact of weather conditions on skiing will be considered in allocating points
  • the skis, poles, and boots from the Finnish Defence Forces
  • own outdoors wear suitable for the weather conditions.
     

The final scoring is as follows:

  • each candidate must get at least one point per each sub-test assessed to pass and qualify
  • the maximum number of points awarded is 48 points in total
     
  • Those who apply for Paratrooper training must get at least 29 - 32 points to qualify for the next phase after the physical fitness tests (the threshold for cut off varies yearly)
     
  • For the candidates applying for the Special Operations Qualification Course of the Finnish Defence Forces, the total number of points required to qualify for the second phase is higher (the threshold for cut off varies yearly).
