Material aid to earthquake area in Turkey
On 26–27 February, the Defence Forces sent material aid for organising emergency accommodation at the Turkish areas hit by earthquakes. The aid is part of Finland’s aid scheme to Turkey coordinated by the Ministry of the Interior. The Defence Forces Logistics Command was responsible for collecting the material aid and planning transport arrangements.
The material aid package with approximately 6400 blankets, 90 tents, 20 air heat pumps and 19 electric power units was put together by the Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command from Defence Forces’ stores around Finland. The air transport to Turkey for the aid package was provided by a contracting partner of the Defence Forces.
The Ministry of the Interior is responsible for coordinating the Finnish aid delivered to the area in Turkey devastated by earthquakes. Material aid is delivered through the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism.
The material aid delivered to Turkey on 26–27 February is the second package that includes materials from the Finnish Defence Forces. On 11 February, at the request of the Ministry of the Interior, the Defence Forces delivered a batch of accommodation supplies to Turkey, consisting of 300 group tents with fire stoves.
