Finland participates in the multinational ASGARD 23 -exercise hosted by Iceland. The Finnish Defence Forces participate in the exercise 9 – 27 June 2023. The ASGARD 23 -exercise consists of several, separate phases and has the aim to develop the capacity of JEF-nations to act together.

This participation continues the Finnish Defence Forces’ multinational military cooperation within the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF). JEF, led by the United Kingdom, is a multinational framework for the defence cooperation of ten nations – the Netherlands, Iceland, United Kingdom, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Sweden, Estonia – which Finland joined summer 2017.

JEF was created 2014 as a voluntary defence cooperation of afore mentioned ten nations, complementary to Nato, focusing on the security of Northwestern and Northern Europe, and training regularly joint response against modern security threats.
