Commander of the United States Special Operations Command visited Finland

General Bryan P. Fenton, Commander of the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), visited Finland on 18–19 September 2023. The visit was hosted by the Commander of the Finnish Defence Forces, General Timo Kivinen.

During the visit, representatives of the Finnish Defence Forces and USSOCOM discussed military cooperation between Finland and the United States. Topics included the development of special forces, general security situation and the war in Ukraine. 

The role and versatility of special forces have been emphasized in recent wars and crises. Special forces operations are often of strategic importance. USSOCOM leads the operations of U.S. Special Forces. In addition to direct military activities, core activities include intelligence, internal defence, support operations, humanitarian aid, counter-terrorism and methods against weapons of mass destruction. USSOCOM:s headquarters is in Tampa, Florida.
