Chief of Defence Command, Lieutenant General Vesa Virtanen will participate as deputy to CHOD in a meeting of commanders of the armed forces in the Arctic region in Oslo on Monday 18 September 2023.

The meeting of the commanders of the armed forces in the Arctic region will discuss defence co-operation of the countries, as well as the effects of the Russia initiated illegal offensive war on the stability of the arctic region. The commanders of the armed forces in the Arctic region include alongside Finland Norway, the U.S.A., Canada, Sweden, Denmark and Iceland.

The objective of the countries is to strengthen co-operation and security in the Arctic region with its increasing strategic significance resulting from, among others, climate change, technological development and economic potential. Held on a regular basis, the meetings involve discussing the subject of security, and exchange of information, as well as aim to advance co-operation and confidence-building by means of open dialogue.
