On September 3, 2025, the Finnish Defense Forces Logistics Command and Forcit signed an agreement on the procurement of TNT explosives.

The procurement agreement was signed in Tampere by Major General Tero Ylitalo, Director of the Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command, and Joakim Westerlund, CEO of Forcit.

Under the agreement, the Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command will purchase TNT explosives from Forcit for the needs of the Finnish Defence Forces in 2028–37. The total value of the agreement, excluding VAT, is EUR 189 million. The explosive will be supplied by Forcit Pori Oy, a member of the Forcit Group, and a new production facility will be built in Pori for this purpose.

The opening of the new production facility is part of efforts to up increase Finland’s ammunition production, which will ensure sufficient domestic TNT supply for the needs of the Finnish Defense Forces and also enable support for allies.

TNT, or trotyl, is used as an explosive in many field artillery and mortar shells, among other things. In Finland, ammunition for the Finnish Defense Forces is manufactured in cooperation between domestic industry and the Explosives Center of the Finnish Defense Forces Logistics Command.

In the grenade manufacturing process, domestic industry is responsible for the production of explosives, as well as the casting and painting of metal shells and the manufacture of other components. The Explosives Center is responsible for loading and packaging the shells, as well as conducting test firings to ensure the safety and proper functioning of the ammunition batches.
