80th Anniversary of the Defence Forces Auctions
The 80th anniversary of the Finnish Defence Forces auctions will be celebrated in Tampere on 9-10 October in conjunction with the autumn auction of SA Kauppa . The two-day auction will feature around 550 items of decommissioned Defence Forces material. All items to be auctioned will be sold marked as scrap. The material to be sold is no longer suitable for military use due to its condition or other reasons.
Finnish Defence Forces auctions have been part of the Finnish auction culture for 80 years. The first auction was held in Tampere on 29 December 1944 after the end of the Continuation War to liquidate surplus equipment. Since 2009, the auctions have been organised by Millog, a strategic partner of the Defence Forces.
On Friday 11 October, an auction of museum-age tanks and other old armaments will take place. Among the items to be sold are Comet and Charioteer tanks, as well as decommissioned guns and their parts. Pre-registration for the auction is required. Entrants must have the right to purchase the items to be auctioned.
