Minelayer Hämeenmaa to participate in Exercise BALTOPS 25 in the Baltic Sea

Minelayer Hämeenmaa will return to Finland from a sail training trip on 16 June. During its sailing phase from Kiel to Helsinki, the minelayer and its crew will take part in Exercise BALTOPS 25 led by NATO in the Baltic Sea region.

The objective of the sail training trip is to provide naval cadets, regular military personnel and conscripts with training and practice in sea service tasks on a combat vessel.   By being involved in the exercise, the crew gets practice in carrying out tasks as part of a large international military exercise and NATO’s joint operating.

 

BALTOPS 25 starts on 5 June.  It is NATO’s annual naval exercise in the Baltic Sea region, and it is led by  U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa / U.S. Sixth Fleet based in Portugal. More than 40 vessels in total from 16 countries will be involved in the exercise.
