The Finnish Navy deploys MHC Katanpää to join Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group One for three months starting from 25th August 2025. This is the Finnish Navy’s planned participation in the Alliance’s peace time collective defence missions.
By deploying the vessel to NATO’s naval force the Finnish Navy supports the Alliance’s activities aimed at stabilizing the security environment in the Baltic Sea area. The high level systems and the motivated personnel of MHC Katanpää are very well suited to the tasks of the Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group One. They contribute to the Group’s ability to monitor and protect critical underwater infrastructure in the Baltic Sea.
The participation will enhance the Finnish Navy’s personnel’s competence in combined operating in the NATO multinational naval force and demonstrates Finland’s commitment to the Alliance’s peacetime collective defence missions.
