The President of the Republic has appointed Brigadier General Sami Nurmi as Deputy Chief of Staff, Strategy of the Finnish Defence Forces as of 1 April 2024. At the same time, Nurmi was appointed to duty as general for the period 1.4.2024–31.3.2029.
Brigadier General Sami Heikki Nurmi (b. 1967) is currently Director of the Unit for National Defence at the Ministry of Defence. Previously, he has served as Head of Defence Courses at the National Defence Uni-versity, Director of Communications for the Finnish Defence Forces and assistant to the Chief of the EU Military Staff in Brussels. He was promoted to Brigadier General in 2021.
