The Pohjanmaa-class multi-role corvettes are new surface combatants capable of conducting effectively the range of Navy tasks at sea all year round. The four Pohjanmaa-class corvettes are in their design phase. They are constructed at the Rauma shipyard and will be commissioned in phases between 2027- 2029.
Every day and all year round, the tasks of the Pohjanmaa-class corvettes include surveillance and safeguarding of Finland’s territorial integrity, repelling attacks from the sea and defending vital sea lines of communication.
When they enter service, the multi-role corvettes will replace a total of seven Navy vessels that will be or have been decommissioned: FNS Pohjanmaa, a minelayer decommissioned in 2015, four Rauma-class fast-attack missile craft and two Hämeenmaa-class minelayers.
