Chief of Defence Command attended the meeting of the Northern Group’s vice chiefs of defence
The Chief of the Defence Command, Lieutenant General Vesa Virtanen attended the meeting of the Northern Group countries’ vice chiefs of defence in the Netherlands from 10 to 11 October.
The Northern Group’s defence forces' vice chiefs of defence meet annually. In the meeting this time, the topics discussed included, among other things, the security situation, support for Ukraine, protection of critical infrastructure and developing the armed forces. In the meeting, Finland emphasized in particular the importance of boosting European ammunition and military equipment production. The discussions also covered the Balticconnector gas pipeline and telecommunications cable between Finland and Estonia.
The Northern Group is a forum led by the United Kingdom which deals with security and defence in Northern Europe. In addition to the United Kingdom, the group includes the Nordic and the Baltic countries, the Netherlands, Poland and Germany.
