The Finnish Navy is cooperating closely with the Swedish Navy's HMS Belos
The Finnish Defence Forces will provide executive assistance to the police in connection with the investigation of cable damage in the Gulf of Finland, including through the Navy´s capabilities such as the MHC Vahterpää, the auxiliary vessel Hylje and divers, other vessels and personnel, as well as compiling the recognized maritime picture and analysis of related data.

The Finnish authorities are also supported by the Swedish Navy's multi-purpose vessel HMS Belos, which has the capability to assist in underwater work, among other things. The Finnish Navy is working in close cooperation with HMS Belos.
Securing the underwater infrastructure of the Baltic Sea is in the common interest of both countries and the Finnish Navy has worked closely with Swedish Navy on a bilateral cooperation for many years. The FISE cooperation involves regular training, development and testing of various capabilities and operational models in joint exercises and other events between the Finnish and Swedish defence forces.
The Finnish Navy's cooperation with the HMS Belos and its support in the investigation of cable damage is an excellent practical demonstration of the importance of training and long-term cooperation. Now this cooperation at sea is reflected in Sweden's prompt response to Finland's request for support. HMS Belos complements the capabilities required for deep diving and working and adds safety to underwater work.
- Working underwater is always demanding, but in the current situation, diving tasks are prepared to be carried out at quite a deep if necessary, which requires special attention to preparation, safety and the work itself. HMS Belos brings additional skills, equipment and experience to the mission. The FISE cooperation and years of joint training are now taking concrete shape, says Commander Tuomas Runola, commanding officer of the Finnish Navy deep diving and salvage detachment.

The Helsinki Police Department is leading the operation, and the Border Guard is contributing in carrying out of the operation. The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is in charge of conducting the criminal investigation. The underwater scene investigation is led by the Border Guard patrol vessel Turva under the direction of the NBI.
