Call-ups and pilot selection events for women's voluntary military service begin in mid-August
From 15 August to 13 December 2024, the Defence Forces’ regional offices will organise call-ups as specified in the Conscription Act. In Lapland, Uusimaa and Häme, selection events for women’s voluntary military service will be organised in conjunction with the call-ups.
The regional offices will organise 244 call-up events during the latter half of this year, expecting 37 830 persons liable for call-ups to attend. This year, male citizens born in 2006 will be summoned to call-ups. Anyone from a previous year’s call-up ordered to be re-examined and those who have failed to attend their call-up without a legal impediment are also obligated to participate in call-ups. The call-up event must be attended in person unless one is specifically exempted from the call-up participation obligation.
The purpose of the call-up and selection events is to determine a person's fitness for military service and, on this basis, make decisions concerning their service. At the event, men liable for military service and women applying for voluntary service are also given the starting date and location of their service. They are invited to express their preferences concerning their military service to the call-up/selection board. Service times and duties will, however, be determined only towards the end of the branch training phase.
Joint call-up and selection events piloted in Lapland, Uusimaa and Häme
Women who have applied for voluntary military service in the areas of Lapland, Uusimaa and Häme Regional Offices will attend selection events which are organised, for the first time, together with call-ups for men liable for military service. These pilot selection events will be attended by 520 women who have applied for voluntary military service. Experiences and feedback from the pilot events will help improve the call-up system in the future. Piloting joint events in different parts of Finland provides a comprehensive picture of the way they work.
MyMilitary (OmaIntti) - eService for all preparing for military service
The Defence Forces’ My Military eService provides plenty of useful information for young people preparing for the call-up or selection event. All services and topical information that is relevant to them can be found there. In MyMilitary you can, for example, apply for special forces or other special tasks that need to be applied for before service. Logging in requires online bank user identifiers or a mobile ID.
It is recommended to have a look at different service titles before the call-up and give some thought to your preferences concerning the service. Whenever possible, people are encouraged to put their education, training or other interests to use in military service.
Dates and locations of call-ups and selection events are given in the Regional Offices’ call-up notices at MyMilitary (OmaIntti). In case you already know that you will not be able to attend the call-up on the date specified or if you fall ill before the event, contact your regional office for information on how to meet your call-up obligation.
The application period for women’s voluntary military service is open and closes on 15 January 2025. Instructions (in English) for applying for voluntary military service are available at: Applying - MyMilitary
