Press release

The Finnish Defence Forces International Centre FINCENT has been awarded the United Nations Training Recognition for its United Nations Protection of Civilians Course.

The United Nations conducted an on-site assessment of the United Nations’ Protection of Civilians Course in February 2016. As a result of the assessment, the UNPOC course has now been awarded the UN Training Recognition. FINCENT is the first training centre in the world to receive UN certification for an operational level UNPOC course.

The aim of the UNPOC course is to enhance the knowledge and critical understanding of the multiple dimensions and meanings of the protection of civilians in armed conflicts. The course is aimed at military, police and civilian professionals who are deployed or about to be deployed on international missions. The course participants are trained to understand the roles and responsibilities of the military, police and civilian actors in protection work in United Nations peacekeeping operations.

Certificate for UNMEM course handed over to FINCENT

Already earlier, FINCENT was awarded the United Nations Training Recognition for the United Nations Military Experts on Mission (UNMEM) course. The Finnish Defence Forces Chief of Education, Brigadier General Jukka Sonninen, handed over the UN Certificate to the Commandant of FINCENT, Commander Jukka-Pekka Schroderus during the opening ceremonies of UNMEM Course 1/16 in May 2016.
