Our Boys- Meidän poikamme- Finnish Defence Forces 100th Anniversary Concert
"Our Boys" will make a tour of three cities in honour of the Finnish Defence Forces’ 100th Anniversary. These cities include Lahti, Tampere and Helsinki.
A silent film entitled Our Boys- Meidän poikamme- directed by Erkki Karu had its premiere in 1929. This film started a series of three films portraying the three services of the Defence Forces. The films contain lots of splendid Finnish music from folk songs to romantic melodies and military marches. In honour of the the Finnish Defence Forces’ 100 years’ journey, there will be music and footage from these films, for example, in the concert.
Topi Lehtipuu, who did his military service in the Guards Band, will perform as the concert’s soloist. He will sing Gustav Mahler’s "Songs of a Wayfarer" which is a cycle of four Lieder. For this 100th Anniversary concert, the accompaniment of the songs has been orchestrated for a brass band. Tero Lanu’s composition "Ten Times Ten" awarded in The Finnish Defence Forces 100 years Prelude composition competition will also be performed. The concert will be conducted by Chief Conductor of the Finnish Defence Forces Lieutenant Colonel (Mus.) Jyrki Koskinen and Major (Mus.) Senior Conductor of The Guards Band Pasi-Heikki Mikkola. The concert will be about two hours long, including intermission.
