Surface-based air defence conducted by several vessels in the Archipelago Sea

The Coastal Fleet’s large live-fire exercise is held on 17-20 August in the Örö firing areas.

The exercise focuses on surface-based air  defence and naval artillery firing. The firing exercises contribute to the fleet’s ability to intercept unmanned aerial vehicles of various sizes with different weapon systems and enhance the operating of the crews under a threat posed by drones.

- We conduct naval artillery firings against surface and air threats. The know-how of the crews and vessel units is strengthened in all areas of air defence conducted by vessels, says the Chief of Personnel of the Coastal Fleet, Lieutenant Commander Johannes Vahtoranta.

The activity may cause temporary GNSS interference in Barskärs fjärden, Pemarfjärden and Gullkruna fjärd. Vessels and personnel from all the Coastal Fleet’s squadrons participate in the exercise. The Navy is in charge of target activity supported by the Air Force.
